In 2006, Laura Baisden moved from WVa to Nashville to put away type and crank posters for Bryce McCloud at Isle of Printing with the intention of only staying a year. After 3 years, she’d learned to love carving and the letterpress process and got hired at Hatch Show Print where she further honed her typesetting skills designing posters for all kinds of jobs local and international. From 2010-2015, she designed and printed hundreds of posters, redistributed thousands of letters and taught about 70 interns the ins and outs of letterpress printing.
A Vandercook 4T fell into her lap in 2015 and provided a challenging opportunity. With a little help from Julie Belcher of Pioneer House (formerly Yee-Haw Industries), Laura was able to start Camp Nevernice in Knoxville, TN. Based on the principles learned over the last several years combined with her individual style and Pioneer House’s extensive wood type collection, Camp Nevernice sought to create beautiful hand crafted products for whoever needed ‘em.
In the fall of 2018, Laura moved her press and equipment back to East Nashville to open up a new shop and store-front of her own. Camp Nevernice is a custom letterpress and illustration company, creating unique products to suit needs for all things on paper using hand carved linoleum, antique type and a Vandercook cylinder press.
